Topic 1 Health Problems

Compared to urban areas, rural areas have more health problems. The first reason behind this disparity is the shortage of health professionals in rural areas. The shortage of health professionals in rural areas results from the problems emanating from healthcare provider recruitment and retention which is often caused by low salaries, fewer social amenities such as schools and recreational centers, lower chances of education advancement or opportunities, and isolation from peers. According to Streeter et al. (2020), at least 20 million Americans reside in health professional shortage areas (HPSAs).
