Essay – Painting Analysis & Reflection

For this assignment, I will be looking into Da Vinci’s painting, Mona Lisa which he created in the early 1500s. The painting is among the most famous artworks in the world. The imagery presentation in the painting has for a long time been a controversial debate and research subject since little is known about its commissioning. Nonetheless, different scholars have engaged in speculations suggesting that the self-portrait sitter could be Lisa del Giocondo and hence the title, La Gioconda.

The painting shows the picture of a lady with an outlying background scenery. The sitter is inclined toward the viewer’s course with a mysterious, illusory smile, and a sharp gaze following the viewer around. The woman has a dark veil on her hair, perceived to be used when people are mourning, whereas, on the other parts of her body, she wears simple and ordinary clothing. From a frontal angle, the woman looks as if she is on a balcony and her face protrudes against the civilized observable landscapes, and the one she gazes at cannot be viewed (Mehra & Campbell, 2018).
