Course Project Milestone – Final Paper

The field of medicine and its practices aim at lengthening people’s lifespans by healing them while eradicating pain and suffering. The knack for healing, extending life, and eliminating agony tends to diminish when life nears the inevitable end. This fact has resulted in the development of practices like euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide (PAS) which are entrenched in the doctrines of patient independence and the role of healthcare providers. Supporters of these practices suggest that it is humane and merciful to relieve people of their agony and pain while respecting their wishes (Komrad et al., 2018). The proponents find it unnecessary for individuals to live out the remainder of their lives in abject anguish and pain. On the flip side, the opponents argue that there lacks any viable justification for ending people’s lives prematurely. For this reason, they posit that this practice is highly unacceptable. This paper focuses on the conflicts that arise regarding euthanasia and evaluates ethical issues attached to the practice through natural law, utilitarianism, and Aristotle’s mean doctrine.

Summary of the Case

In the past, there have been lengthy discourses as to whether the United States as a country should lawfully accept euthanasia. It has been a controversial matter that has resulted in sharp divisions among members of the public, healthcare providers, and policymakers. The issue was recently highlighted in the 1980s, after the acts of Jacob Kevorkian.….please click the purchase button below to access the entire solution at $10
