What lessons from history have we learned as a profession that will take us into the next century? What can we do to help this happen? What should we avoid?

SOLUTION  

Learning about the history of nursing is essential for many reasons. One of the most important reasons to learn about the history of anything, in this case nursing, is to help guide and shape the future. As nurses of today, it is our responsibility to take a critical look at what and how nursing history has been, and to make meaning out of it so that we can apply the knowledge learned from the past, to help direct our paths for the future.

Personally, the one lesson I have learned from the history of nursing as a profession is the amount of selfless sacrifices the nurses of old times. Their zeal and dedication to the profession, and to the people (the sick and needy) they care for is something to cherish and emulate.
